Ridgeway and Dura Composites add value for Architects and Specifiers

Ridgeway and supplier Dura Composites are ahead of the game! They have added value for Architects and Specifiers through the launch of BIM objects for the Dura Slab and Dura Grating product range.

BIM stands for Building Information Modelling. BIM is a process that assists in creating and managing all information on a project from the start, during and after construction. The result of this process allows there to be a digital description of every aspect of the build asset.

Ridgeway is delighted to announce that BIM objects are now available for the market leading Dura Slab and Dura Grating product range. These are available free from the National Building Specification (NBS) National BIM Library. These new data-rich Dura Slab and Dura Grating BIM objects allow specifiers to access up-to-date information and accurate data regarding Dura Composites products. This allows them to easily incorporate them into their overall design. Dura Composites BIM objects are authorised to the trusted NBS standard. Each one details surface finishes, profiles, sizes and colour options for each product and provides specifiers and end users with detailed information on how the products will perform within their expected life cycle.

The UK Government has stated that the use of BIM will be mandatory on all public sector projects from 2016. Following this Dura Composites has strengthened their market-leading service and support by investing in the development of BIM objects to help customers streamline the construction process and predict and reduce errors throughout the different design stages.

Customers downloading Dura Composites BIM objects in Autodesk Revit format can be confident that each file had been quality checked by the NBS team, catalogued in line with the NBS and includes embedded product information and associated data to support the specification.

Dura Composites Managing Director Stuart Burns comments on the launch: “With the increasingly-important role that BIM is playing in the construction industry, it’s vital for manufacturers like us to support specifiers by providing comprehensive real world information about the products we supply in a consistent and highly usable format. Our BIM objects are the perfect complement to our other extensive technical resources, which include in-house CAD design and Structural Engineering support, Technical Manuals, Real World Test Data, and Anti-Slip Certification”.

Ridgeway is the exclusive all Ireland distributor for Dura Composites and stock both Dura Slab and Dura Grating. These are both made from high strength and low weight Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) and offer a durable and low maintenance alternative to wood, concrete and steel. The main reason to choose GRP is that it is very chemical resistant.

Dura Slab weighs up to 80% less than steel and concrete and is ideally suited for use as trench covers, which offers low installation and servicing removal costs. This is due to its more economical transport, handling and on site positioning.

Dura Grating is a high strength flooring material, which is designed for use on raised or roof walkways, as service riser flooring and for protective screening. Dura Grating has a long life and is virtually maintenance free and benefits from a low life cycle cost. The gritted anti-slip texture has one of the highest degrees of slip resistance ever measured for a walking surface. This makes it well-suited to wet or oily environments.
