Bridge building begins at home

Ridgeway are delighted to have donated several items of PPE to ICE NI (Institution of Civil Engineers) for their Bridges to Prosperity Programme (B2P).  B2P are a charitable organisation who construct bridges in areas of poverty that suffer from isolation due to the absence of safe river crossings.

On the 20th May 2018 a team from NI will travel to Rwanda for 2 weeks.  They will be constructing a 45m suspension footbridge to allow the safe passage of children and the Mutovu community across the Giwsi River.  The Giwsi River floods for 120 days during the year, when the river floods local farmers can’t travel to the market to sell their goods, students can’t attend school and the health care clinic is inaccessible.  Within the last three years, three people have died attempting to cross the river.  The community urgently need a bridge which will allow them to have safe access to both sides of the Giwsi River all year round.

The ICE NI are working towards raising £15,000 to cover flights, accommodation, food and vaccinations for the team of civil engineers jetting off on the 20th May 2018.  If you would like to donate to this very worthwhile project please click here.

The branded hi-vis vests, branded hard hats, gloves, harnesses and several items of fall restraint equipment donated by Ridgeway will complement the teams safe working practices and will hugely assist with safeguarding them while on site.
