Handrailing Legislation Changes

Handrailing Legislation Update

Steel fabricators received important news this week when the announcement was made on 1st July that fabricators and blacksmiths will not have to be CE marked under new EU handrailing legislation.

The original EU regulations enforcing that structural aluminium and steelwork contractors were certified raised concerns for balustrade and hand railing firms as they were bound under the EN190 legislation governing structural products.

Stephen Williams MP, the Minister responsible for the enforcement of EN190 called for EU clarification on the new standard earlier this month. Documents have just been circulated confirming that hand railing and balustrading/edge protection will now not need to be CE marked.

“We felt it was a direct threat to the livelihood of many of our blacksmith and steel fabricator customers, who would struggle under unnecessary burden and red tape, just as the economy was recovering.”
